There is room for doubt w nether the intial salary of

this post is not wrongly stated at £420. The usual com-

mencing salary is £480. It is possible taat the Gov. nas reduced

the initial salary in consideration of a mouse allowance being

given. But on the other hand the reduction makes the

incremental period adstrdig long, and triennial increments of

£40 do not fit into the new range of salary. Moreover it

seems undesirable to give a house allowance, in view of the

recent practice of not giving it to doctors.
